Camping life suited for a King
29 May 2006 -
I found myself so far away from reality and my actual me, that I had to pinch my
arm! If there were anything call the opposite to campfire, bush camping and
social rural village life, this is it. It has been a real treat to see this
castle or palace as it is rightly called, Trondheim Palace. Trond Kolstad and
Basit, two world known characters in Trondheim, owns two hotels in Bulawayo and
they invited me to stay here when I visited Bulawayo. They might have thought
that I was only going to stay a night or two, but this is so comfy, I think I
will be here for a while :-)

Time has been wisely spent, as I have had time to update my
web, do some work on the interviews and play around with my only hobby; Photos
and photography. The owners wanted me to portrait the palace and so I did. Took
plenty of photos of the garden, park area and inside the house. Shot and failed,
shot and failed and shot again until I was satisfied and happy to post it on the
gallery. You constantly learn something new for every session.
You can see
some of the photos here.
As I have had thousands of square meters just by myself these
days you kind loose the feeling of being a wild camper. I am not used to stand
up right in the morning when preparing my morning coffee, its more like bending
like a circus artist both going into bed and lurking out of it. In this house a
fully grown giraffe can jump around without no hassle or danger in hitting the
roof.
It is truly an amazing place and everything down to the tiny
details are so thoroughly done, it must have been a challenge and a treat for
the architects. Other details are the monograms in which you can read Trondheim
Palace (TP). One morning when I came out of the shower and was about to go
downstairs to make my self a nice cappuccino, I found a bathrobe with the TP
monograms broidery on the chest, you cant feel anything but very special in this
home, I tell you that much.
The portal into the property is so huge it would easily have
fitted a Robert Mugabe's many homes. Actually I learned that the reason it is so
big, is because it is a water tank inside it, its part of one of the two private
wells. Which is good to know as I sometimes wonder how much water I use when I
take two baths every day. Well, I needed to, I was so filthy when I came here
that I was actually happy that the owners didn't meet me. They would have thrown
me right back into the dusty Betsy.
The park area has 35 naked Greek women and this is the part
where I would loved to camp. Think, waking up every morning an 68 eyes and 68
breasts are pointing at nothing but ME (and Betsy). How big the property with
its parks, I don't really know. I could have allocated some hours in measuring
it, but I had better things to do.
To describe it any further will not be fair to the owners,
architects and designers, so I will leave it with that. It really made me feel
like a king for a couple of days and I am not sure if I liked the feeling.
Understand me right, I adored staying here, but I don't know if I could have for
my entire life. I am a traveller, I like dust, bumpy roads and people, all kinds
of people...
