Bern, Switzerland - Wednesday 19 March 2008 - Silvie, where are you???
As I was trying to meet Silvie Studinger for a coffee break
in the midst of the Swiss capital Bern, I got almost trampled down by 4000-5000
protesters. Luckily Silvie came to my rescue, but it was a close call... SBB
Cargo is planning do downscale Bellinzona, which is located in Tessin, the
Italian part of Switzerland, a place which is already struggling hard compared
to French and German parts of the country. The banner on the above picture
reads; "Keep your hands off my daddy's workplace"...
Facts: Every swiss makes 40 train trips every year which makes them the
Worlds second after Japan.
When talk about Switzerland we would most probably say its a neutral and friendly country. We would say they are World leaders in physics, chemistry and medicine. You also think about high living standards, excellent doctors and famous winter resorts, cuisine, watches/clocks and yummy chocolate. Well, its not only sunshine even for what is considered perfect by outsiders. Through the noise of thousands of whistles and screaming SBB workers and their children, Silvie and myself managed to find a quiet cafe where it was possible to talk.
