La Torre di Pisa

And so we entered Tuscany valley and the World famous city Pisa in central Italy. The city is mostly famous for its Bell Tower which has been leaning ever since it was built as far back as 1179. Some believe it was a constructional plan that tower was built to bend, but scientist and the like, has concluded that it was not so.

It took over two hundred years to finish the tower which has become THE most famous tower in the world. We visited the site during low season, but the crowd was noisy and plentiful, just imagine how it is in summer.

One thing to remark is that this miraculous building, both for its architecture, historic importance and its strange behaviour (leaning over) stands in an area called "Piazza dei Miracoli together with the baptistery. Another thing is that there is no hard evidence of who was the architect of this constructional failure.

Because my co-pilot's anxiety for heights, I didn't have any familiar faces to photograph on top of the tower, but got the traditional motive of him trying to support the incline of the tower. We didn't stay long in town and decided to find a camp in Firenze, one hour drive inland, crossing the country.

We are headed for the tiny nation San Marino on Friday. Trying to find out more about the eastern side of Italy.
