Dakar, Senegal - Thursday 20 December 2007 - A gearbox for Christmas!
On Wednesday we went over to Dr. Marc's clinic to retrieve the diagnoses for Betsy and find out more about the progress onwards. As expected, the news was not good and the promised gearbox from Monrovia couldn't take it anymore. Due to a needed adjustment from Mr Richard and his crew, Betsy rejected the donor parts instantly and we are now in need for something "real" and something that will last for more than two weeks! This will be the fourth gearbox since July!!!
We are told that Dr Mark has located a TD5 gearbox from a Discovery and as we are getting closer to Europe, the parts gets more expensive. This time around we will be charged 800.000 CFA for the gearbox plus labor, oil etc. This means we are close to broke and it will possibly force us to redo our planned itinerary. We will be able to tell you more in a few days...
