Monrovia, Liberia - Saturday 24 November 2007 - My neighbourhood friends

I have always been counting the number of blogs from the same destination when staying too long in a place. This time I have been posting 15 of them and it is a tie with Danane in Ivory Coast and Yei, Sudan, so lets not make a new personal best. During my stay here at Richards Garage I have gotten quite found of my closest neighbours. A cross the street there are some street vendors that I have kept company the last eight days and I might possibly have been a breath of fresh air for them as well (at least after I discovered a place where I could take bucket shower).

Some of the younger generations told me they would cry the day I was leaving, not sure if that was tears of joy or actually missing me. On the above picture you can see how I positioned myself after dark, just listening and looking at the busy life in this narrow dark street. Most nights with a beer or a whisky/coke in my hand just enjoying the sounds of kids playing, cars hooting, adults shouting accompanied by some post modern disco rhythms. Quite nice and it weirdly calms me down. Leaving my young and old friends in this neighbourhood will be sourly missed, but no matter how pleasant this was, I need to make an attempt on Saturday to move on...
