Niamey, Niger - Wednesday 6 June 2007 - Our Niger representatives

After all misfortune lately, there was some satisfaction that everything went so smooth for us. Sleeping arrangement at Grand Hotel are outstanding. Free parking, free shower and use of pool and good barbeque and bar. The hotel manager then guided me to a workshop for some lubrication and check of Betsy before heading on further with the handicapped gearbox. As if that was not enough, a man approach me at the workshop and says "Hvordan har du det?". Well, I replied that I was feeling pretty well, but how on earth... Well, to make it short, Soumana saw the car, saw the sponsor labels and wanted to meet me. He stayed 18 months in Norway some five years ago and wanted to greet a "countryman". As it happened, he was working as a translator and could help me with the interview.

After additional talks, he knew a Norwegian famliy that worked as missionaries in a small church in town and if it was interesting, we could drive over to see if they were in. They were not, but we found their house and luckily it happend now and not next week, because they were about to move back to Oslo, Norway. Even though Geir and Asbjørg were busy with moving and goodbye parties they offered to help locating a child for an interview and on Sunday we had our workingday with the 13 year old Sakina Djibo, who will represent Niger in the book project.
