Roadside, Nigeria - Tuesday 31 July 2007 - We are not at all worried...

That remark is the truth, not that everything else that is written here is NOT. We understand that little or nothing is happening on cape2cape these days, but don't worry, things will suddenly change to the better. The thing is, Betsy (my always trustworthy companion) is feeling rather uneasy these days and is hospitalized. In other words, we have technical problems. On our way out of Abuja one week ago, we discovered problems with the gearbox and stopped at the "first and best" workshop. The reason for this unfortunate incident was that my lay shaft broke.

It is not at all the best campsite we have encountered on our journey so far, but we are "hanging in there". Believing that Mr Engineer himself, DC will make Betsy roadworthy and up to the task to get us to Bamako in Mali in three weeks time.

My own supportive illness has stagnated although I wish it could have been better, infection in my arm is better but my back needs immediate attention by a masseuse (or two). Which I have heard is much better that any painkillers and medication.

We believe that we are rolling again on Tuesday afternoon and it looks like I have to drive to Abuja to change money for Betsys "treatment" and leaving for Kano on Wednesday. Well that's what we are hoping for anyway. So just keep visiting, eventually something interesting will happen.
