
Wild, Gabon - Monday 21 May 2007 - Introducing Gabon
Entered into Gabon around 10.00 on Sunday after a terrible rainy morning. I had to move my car into safer territory as I was parked 1 kilometre off road and the ground was a bit too sandy and soft to risk anything. Betsy has a fracture in the forehead and water is pouring in.
Gabon is not very well known by most people, so let me fill in a few gaps. Gabon is a republic in south western Africa, bordering to Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon and Congo. It also has access to the Atlantic Ocean and is in African terms and due to its size, a very rich country. Rich on minerals,gas, oil and fish and of course timber (see above picture). If the resources were shared among the people of Gabon, you would probably not see a poor person at all.
The plan ahead is to drive all the way up to the border of Cameroon, pick up my co-pilot Eli Storset and then return back south-west to the capitol Libreville. What happends inbetween, you would never guess...But by all means.... guess i vei...............
