Matadi, DRC - Wednesday 9 May 2007 - Democratic Republic of Congo

Look at this scenery! Its well worth all the struggle through Angola to get here and after chatting with a French/Swedish couple (Wilfrid and Sara), I got assurances that the road upwards was nice. They have been "overlanding" for six months and also gave me useful information about a camp in Kinshasa and the road up to Libreville. They estimated five days from Brazzaville to the border of Cameroon and that might calm down my next co-pilot, who will be waiting for me at the borderpost the 22 May.

To be honest, I will not attend another try driving alone from Luanda to Kinshasa. Its too nerve wrecking and risky. God forbid during the rainy season. Now its fairly dry, but still the potholes are filled with enough water to launch a submarine. I take my head off for those who do this when they rain is pouring down.
