Ambrisette, Angola - Monday 7 May 2007 - A day seemingly with no ending...
Today I planned to show you a schematic of how fast I am moving in the terrain, but something else came up, so I will have to let it be. In 10 hours today, I managed to clock 150 km which is better than I hoped early in the morning. The potholes are so huge and deep that when I cursed the roads at one time, the potholes gave me an echo. I normally sing when I get upset, but my Cd player is broken.
At six o'clock Monday evening I had enough. I found a semi-hidden place next to the road and after setting up the usual things I took a bath. I so very well deserved. First the CD-player didn't play, then the diesel filter indicated water, so I had to fix that. Then the brakes started to fail...no brake fluid. Then I got stuck up hill, choosing the wrong path. I jacked my self out of that, no winch necessary. Then some fellow Land Rover locals asked me to tow them out of a ditch and by mistake I didn't look very well where they anchored the rope. My ladder took a big hit and I ripped it out of its position.
Well, no wonder I could not write about my driving speed pattern. Yaaah, that was not all! Then I had a puncture... Poor Betsy, she is being mistreated badly and although I am careful, its impossible to do this differently. The bath was a blessing, now I don't have to take one before Eli gets here.
