Oslo, Norway - Saturday 21 April 2007 - A short 3 day trip to Norway to get "re-equipped"
While we are waiting to proceed up to Angola, we had an interview with a very special girl on Thursday. Lavinia has hearing and speaking disabilities and attends Eluwa Special School in Ondongwa, close to Oshakati, Namibia. Although a tragic background, she is the best pupil in class and is doing very well at school. Eluwa is a boarding school and she has stayed here the last six years of her life, one month ago she lost her mother and is taken care of by her aunt. The rest of the siblings are staying in the village together with their grandmother.
This is not a special scenario for millions of African children today and shows who are punished by the pandemic, the unrest, poverty and wars. It is amazing to see a child with Lavinas background appear so satisfied, full of life and doing so well in school. Despite of her disabilities.
