Oshakati, Namibia - Tuesday 17 April 2007 - The darkest day of them all...

I knew that Oshakati was a crime infected city and I knew that I have been vulnerable and sometimes nonchalant regarding my behavior. I just wasn't prepared for a huge setback like this, and specially not in Namibia. I have been playing Russian roulette both with my personal insurance and for my cameras and computers. Now I have to pay for my stupid "self insurance policy".

I should have been in Angola by now, but due to an interview at Eluwa Special School, I delayed it by one day. I had a very interesting day at the school when we had to take a two hour break before the next session. I went to town to fix my gps antenna cable and refill one of my gas bottles. I went into Northern Gas Supplies and as we tried to pull out the bottle, disaster struck. I saw someone in the drivers seat and I rushed towards him with a hammer in my hand. I grabbed him and threaten to open his scull, but I guess I got scared and let him run away. I didn't see anything on him anyway so he slipped away. It must have happened in seconds as we were working outside the car, but it was two late, there must have been two or three working together. This is what went missing: camera bag with all my lenses and two camera, cell phone and some money for the gasman. So, what now?

This is my tools, and for those who know me well, this is my life. The only person that can help now is my sponsor in Norway, FotoVideo. Lets hope for the best, but I cannot work without a good camera.
