Magowe, Zambia - Thursday 22 March 2007 - The longest day of them all

Wednesday was a day with good progress and we managed to get all the way to Lucy and her guesthouse in Magowe. Because of some mix-up about the local time, departure was at 04.00 in the morning and before sunrise I have clocked 150 kilometers. Not much traffic at night, just an occasional coach or truck. The important thing to do when you meet these guys is to give them 2/3 of the highway, slow down and get it over with.

Just bear in mind, this is not me bragging about driving fast, nor taking unnecessary risks. Come on, we are talking about Betsy here, she is not built for speed, she is built for tranquility. But, she can be persistent and Wednesdays distance shows that she is up to any conditions, and I wanted to break Johan and my record from Harar to Djibouti long long time ago.

Let me give you some data; The distance 1100 kilometres. Total time 14 hours 35 minutes and driving time 13 hours 21 minutes. Average speed 83 km/t. Although a long day, it went by smoothly.

And I was rewarded by getting the chance to meet up with Lucy. A dear friend from our last stay here. In fact, this camp is my fourth one at Cotton development trust guesthouse. Could it be Lucy or is the place just out of the ordinary? Well, not the latter! The plan on Thursday is the get into Botswana, which should not be all that difficult. Have a nice virtual journey.
