Juba, Sudan - Wednesday 14 February 2007 - All the way to Juba

We made history again! The first tourist vehicle to travel by land from Khartoum to Juba in many many decades. The roads down to the capital of Southern Sudan has been challenging, difficult and sometimes non existent. With assistants by Abd Salam in Khartoum, Ter and ADRA from Malakal and with great help from SPLA commanders and soldiers, we traveled fairly safe the whole route.

Although the "road fees" ended up to be pretty costly, such as the 10 minute river crossing (300 US), Food for 50 soldiers when helping us out of the mudhole (100 US) and the plain robbery by the three youngsters in Bor, claiming they were Security Police (100 US). All in all it has been worth the price and the struggle, we have had an experience unmentionable, met nice people and been to places rarely seen by white men since long before independence or ever...

We came to Juba on Tuesday 13 February and drove straight to NPA (Norwegian Peoples Aid) Office and was greeted by Lars and Margareth. And the way they received us is another chapter in our travel epilogues. To say we had luck meeting the staff of NPA would be an understatement, we have our own guestroom in their home with access to everything you would possible crave for as an overlander traveller. We celebrated our new friendship by treating our self to a filet steak with pepper sauce, French fries and beer at one of Jubas finest restaurants. I guess we would call this civilization and a big thank to NPA.

The above picture shows Magnus from Sweden and Berit from Norway whom we met in Bor on Tuesday.
