Bor, Sudan - Tuesday 13 February 2007 - Welcomed by Secret Police
Not a very nice welcoming committee greeted us in the city of Bor Monday. We were taken into custody by three men, claiming they were security police (When I asked for ID, they said Security Police don't carry those!!!). I am very sorry this happened in Sudan, because we have been treated so nicely by all the people we have met so far.
They issued a "travel permit" to drive to Juba for one hundred US Dollar. When I asked for the receipt, they started threaten me with me prison, so I paid without getting any papers signed with the amount. The money landed for sure in these three peoples pockets. I was not in the mood for further arguments, it has been a very long day on the road and I felt time and darkness was playing in their advantage.
On the above picture, you see the famous "digger" that was the worlds biggest twenty years ago. This means we arrived in Bor on Monday evening and will be heading for Juba on Tuesday. It has been three exciting and interesting days through an area of where people havent seen many tourists (if ever). "Erlend continues to comment; I have never been so dirty my whole life!!!"
