Khartoum, Sudan - Saturday 20 January 2007 - Khartoum is a pit stop on the Overland Highway!
When you have detoured the way Johan and my self did through Somaliland, Djibouti, Eritrea and Kassala in Sudan, coming to Sudan's capital Khartoum is like finding the Muzungu Main road again. If you want tips and hints on further routes, waypoints and places (and you are stupid not to listen), its evident that speaking to "colleagues" or fellow travelers is crucial . The Blue Nile Sailing Club is such a place. A meeting point, a rest stop and a nice but busy camp site that with some extra effort could have been an excellent place for dirty and tired chauffers on their way or coming from Egypt. With extra effort means clean sanitary conditions and hot showers, an information board and a reception.
On the above picture, Inger and Peter Groenendijk from Holland (lives in France) on their way south in their Land Rover Series III 1978 model. I must say they are cheating a little bit as they have a Nissan engine under the hood. They are on the way to Zambia to visit their daughter.
