Somaliland, Wednesday 6 December 2006 - Hargeysa's best hotel free of charge!
|
From a night in the streets of Tog Wajaale in 2 inches deep mud to Hotel Man-Soor's garden of Eden, our luck is again back on track! We were invited to stay in Hargeysas best hotell for free as long as we wanted. It looks like we are bitten by the hospitallity of the muslim world right from the start. We have been warned by fellow travellers that it is going to be overwhelming and to say the least...IT IS! For the first time in the history of Betsy and Cape2Cape, I invited my co-pilot to stay inside Betsy for the night. There was not much choice and it went well. Johan downstairs and I slept in the penthouse as usual. Johan's comment was: Its warm and cosy in here! And I said, "- dont get too comfy, this is an emergency!!! Normally I would charge twice the price that of the standard sleeping arrangment, but what the heck... I can be nice at times. After helping two police cars out of their mud bath we were finally ready to leave this Khat consortium and headed for Hargeysa. It is depressing to see sivil servants so blurred out by this grassy drug. Its like they are walking around in a transe, like zombies. As if there was Khat that was the only meaningful thing to do in the entire universe. Old, young, men and women (a few) are chewing Khat like the gorillas in the Ruhengeri forests in Rwanda. I am sad on behalf of the countries that legalize this drug, really sad. |
