Addis Abeba, Ethiopia

Ethiopia, Thursday 16 November 2006 -  We have arrived in Addis Ababa

There shouldn't be any doubts about where we have landed, namely the capitol of Ethiopia. After driving a few kilometres in and around town, the signpost to the Norwegian Embassy suddenly appeared out of nowhere! Up the hill I stumbled again, this time upon a signpost saying "Yilma Hotel" and that's the place we settled for the first night in Addis Ababa.

This is a sprawling city with a population well over 2,5 million people, somewhat different from Lilongwe, Mbabane and Maseru I would say (Malawi, Swaziland and Lesotho). Addis Ababa means "new flower" in Amharic, the official language in Ethiopia. To find a good cup of coffee would not be the biggest hassle, as Ethiopia is well known for that arty taste of this brown addictive liquid. It might also be the perfect time to visit a museum. Just keep a lookout, who knows what will happen. But first, some visa applications.
