Kenya, Saturday 11 November 2006 - Time to say goodbye to Kenya
|
There has been so much said about the road standards, even so, allow me to say this; The people of Kenya is suffering, mostly those who owns a car or drives a car for a living. People walking or living on the roadside would have been better off with tar. Tourists or visitors might leave Kenya with less favourable views because of the way the Government has neglected Kenya's infrastructure. As for me, I put a new record in my black book on Friday, as it is the longest stretch of corrugated dirt I have been driving since the trip started. 13 hours drive and 225 logged on the meter, minus two 15 minutes stops for necessary duties and food, gives an average of .... well figure it out yourself! I don't mind driving slowly, but I hate bad roads. I saw wildlife, jackal, zebra, dikdik, baboons and a good number of elephant dung. I also got some nice pictures of samburu people, my first attempt failed due to extremely overpricing for a picture. They wanted 10 dollars and that was more than I could afford. Second time around I met someone that was happy for a worn out t-shirt and some bread and sweets. |
