Tanzania, Tuesday 8 August 2006 - Abundance of game in Selous national park
|
After two days of game viewing in Selous national park, we are both happy and satisfied with the result. Even though we could not "tick off" the big five, we saw three different predators and had bush experiences worth telling our grandchildren in front of the fireplace in 2050... (is that called utopia?) Take a close look at the hippo on the above picture, there is a story behind the rumbled water around it. You know how it is in the early morning when you are not quiet awake and just want to slumber a few more hours. Well, I expect that was in these hippos minds as well. You also know that a picture of a half awake hippo want sell much, so you have to initiate some action. And that's what happened here. This hippo cow was not very found of this pale photographer advancing to the edge of the riverbed and decided to make a point. It came running towards me for a few meters, and yes it worked. The previously brave (stupid) man with the camera admitted the defeat and went back to Betsys safe haven. We also encountered some elephants with 4 months old babies that were understandably protective, and even though its a thrill to watch attacks on TV, its different in real life. |
