Tanzania, Monday 7 August 2006 - Unable to find the camping in Selous many cross roads

Sometimes the signposting are good, sometimes totally absent and to make the experience totally confusing for first time travellers, they put up a sign at every second crossing. This resulted in a wild camp on the savannah, in the middle of the biggest game park in the world.

Very exciting for sure, but when you travel with a passenger it would have been more appropriate to camp where there are at least some water and a toilet. Wandering around in the dark is not recommended, no matter how good you think you are in handling the wilderness. Animals are unpredictable and if you are on top of the situation one day, you might just loose the next time around.

We got a visitor as we were barbequing some pork shops, a hyena came by and looked at us for ten minutes before wandering off.

We are staying here for two days, to explore what Selous has to offer "overlanders" like us. My co-pilot passed the wilderness test with bravura, and that is something to bring back home to Norway.
