Zanzibar, Monday 31 July 2006 - Rune Ovlien participated in his first dive on the island.

Our co-pilots first mission on the island is done, he went down to the bottom of the ocean (apparently with no regret). As usual the advertised conditions didnt stand up to the printed words as the visibility was moderate and so was the abundance of fish and corals.

It was two dive destination, the first one went to Prison Island where they went down to a US Navy wreck on 30 meters, approximately 40 minutes boat trip from Zanzibar City. The second dive was done after a tasty lunch to a reef and depth of 7 meters.

Rune had some close encounters with some aggressive defending Anemone fish (Nemo), as he was getting a bit close to their neighbourhood. They also met up with a moraine fish and saw a lot of other fish. The promised mermaids was not in the fishnets when I met up with them after they came ashore, so in my opinion this was not a mission in which you could label "accomplished".

These two dives will cost you 40 dollars (including lunch) which is not all too bad.
