Tanzania, Tuesday 18 July 2006 - We made it to Dar Es Salaam, the biggest city in Tanzania
|
A small rain shower hit us today after so many weeks without a droplet. It could have been a tiny one in Zambia or do I mix that up with the rain we had in Victoria Falls. There we rented raincoats in order to protect video and camera equipment. So you understand it doesn't happen every week in this hemisphere. I am sure they had plenty of rain earlier this year, because it looks green everywhere. We were lucky it didn't rain as Betsy entered the city border because the traffic is crazy. A big difference from previous parts of the country. Big coaches hardly touch the tar as they fly into the city centre. To avoid more traffic hazards, we did not go all the way down town today, we will wait until Wednesday to find a Land Rover dealer, a welding workshop and some other small things that needs to be sorted out. Sitting in Betsy's penthouse writing is getting more problematic when the climate has changed. Specially when you sleep in a parking lot and shouldn't open the mosquito windows on the rooftop canvas. I would think my previous co-pilot Eli would have managed without two pairs of socks in these conditions. |
