Mozambique, Monday 12 June 2006 - A nice and comfortable drive up to Gorongosa national park
|
A comfortable way of spending a cloudy Sunday. We drove up to Gorongosa from Beira (210 km) in roughly 7 hours. That means we took it very easy and even tried to interact with the locals with my vocabulary of 7 Portuguese words. It surely is more difficult here than the previous countries where there were at least one in a group of 10 that could speak English. No matter the obstacles, we tried and managed with using both feets, hands and fingers in an international sign language kind of way. This morning we filled up Betsy with diesel just to realize that all my cards were not valid. Tried two VISA cards, one MasterCard and no luck!!! But when you are travelling with onboard internet connection, it was sorted out in 10 minutes. It is so easy, you log on and clicked on "fillem up" and all my cards came to life. Wonder what they did in the seventies? Maybe they planned much better??? :-) :-) Too bad this is a costly business, visiting the internet bank is filled with java applets, which again drives the kilobytes up. |
