Mozambique, Monday 5 June 2006 - Mozambique not exactly as planned, but do not blame the country
|
Country number eight and a big thank you to Zimbabwe, who provided two magnificent weeks for Betsy and myself. We came into Mozambique around 12.00 and continued about one hour before disaster struck. The yellow line in the picture shows how far into Mozambique I managed to get. One of the bearings that makes the fan belt move around properly exploded and a second later the fan belt was in thousand pieces. As this was a country unexplored, I had no idea what to do. I took out the leftovers and messaged my uncle in Norway, he gave me some ideas on how to make a bearing out of wood so I could drive to the nearest service station. I found it easier to drive a few hundred meters, stop for 10 minutes until it was dark. The lucky thing was that Chimoio was only 10 kilometres away the next morning and found spare parts and continued to Beira and the beach. I am servicing the car in Beira before heading north towards Malawi to meet up with Nina and Camilla |
