Namibia 4 April 2006 - Back in Windhoek, waiting for my uncle to arrive on Thursday 6th
|
After a horrible car accident 50 km west of Windhoek, I am now safely back in the same camp as we camped fourteen days ago. Fortunately Betsy was not hit by the race car that went outside the road, hit some stones and crashed into a stationary car on a rest stop, but it was a close call. After the huge clouds of dust vanished, I saw the "race car" have moved a giant rock three meters, smashed into another car and at least three people were injured, one very bad. BUT it could have been much worse as it was five persons in both cars. This shows that the roads in Namibia are vigilant and not very different from roads in South Africa. After two hours with interrogation and all types of questions, they let me leave the police station and continue my journey. Shortly described, I was turning off the road to stop at this rest stop and after at least 10 seconds of indicating, I turned over to the right side and then this car came, must at least have been 140 km/h. He could not stop and ended his trip in front of a rock, broken leg and head injuries. There were some heavy drinking in that car and we asked the police to check if the driver was completely sane. |
