9 March 2006 - Lets just say it properly, Namibia ist sehr schön, wonderbar und LEKKER!

Still reporting from Namibia, after a few days in this country, it was decided that we should leave the anger at Fish River Canyon and not let the camp fee issue trouble us any further. So done, and although the prices are still a bit stiff, it was discovered that you could actually camp cheaper than the first two quotes. At Solitaire you only pay 50 Rand for a night, which is a bargain when you think about the service given. Shame we didn't know.

I cant help but think that this country has a troublesome nature, it even has signpost warning you that you are about to entering Sand Hot Spots. Another surprise was all the open wounds that Betsy had, which means she is very dusty inside, specially after driving 8 hours on gravel roads and with a co-driver that likes to run fast. I try to understand that he doesn't want to spend all day inside a car and want to hurry up to the next destination. But be nice to my dear Betsy, she has to provide transport for me for 29 more months.

During this time of year, it is common to experience the results of flooding and heavy rain and it was a delight to see the green grass covered dunes with nice coloured flowers adding a brief relief to this hash landscape. My comrade Tore did not like it one bit, he wanted dust, sand, dunes and lots of dunes. That's what he had pictured Namibia to contain and that's what he wanted. The above picture is of dune 7 at sunrise, close to Walvis Bay. You might think this picture is altered, but I promise, its not!
