This most be the ultimate camping spot in Congo. Only 10 km from the Gabon border and passed the Congo immigration post. So I guess its in the middle of nowhere... I drove on an idyllic spot far from the main road and it was really peaceful.

Due to heavy rain, I had to move the car in the middle of the night. Pitty because I then had to park on the roadside, but no traffic in sight anyway.

I found an airport! And luckily there were no planes scheduled to land, actually there were no people or buildings at all, just an airstrip. No matter how nice it is to camp with either your own guestroom or camp at a secure parking, this is what I enjoy the most. All alone, no people, no sound of the main road. Just Betsy, me and the sound of nature.

This is the main road I took off from on my way to the airstrip. The roads are perfect up to the Presidents villa (or homestead) which now has become a small city.

Day 468 - Parking at Life & Peace Institute, Brazzaville

Elevation: 12 m above sea level

Arrived : Tuesday 15 May 2007  : 15:00

Number of nights:  3

Staying at L&P institute was very nice. I even met a Norwegian there and he gave Betsy and me shelter during our stay in the big city. Shower and toilet in the basement and electricity was offered. There were some fuzz from some of the small chiefs, but Magnar managed to make peace with them. So it was all for free.

This is my new friend Tannia who joined me crossing the dangerous (!!!) Congo river with the ferry. She didn't really enjoy my evaluation of Angola though, but I guess she has to invite me back for a second view.
